Open House Charlois
Rib, Walgenbach Art & Books, Galerie Hommes, Katarina Zdjelar, Jasper Niens

During Open House Charlois, a number of artists’ initiatives and artists working in Oud-Charlois will open their doors for the guests of Art Rotterdam. The last ten years Charlois has developed into a lively quarter for contemporary art and culture.

Rib is a new exhibition space in Rotterdam, which opened its doors to the public on Saturday, 12 September 2015. We focus mainly on developing exhibitions and long term projects in close collaboration with both local and international artists, often with unforeseen outcomes.


(2) Katarina Zdjelar

Katarina Zdjelar’s artistic practice consists of videos, sound works, books as well as curated exhibitions. Her works involve embodied responses to historical and geo-political constraints placed on individual or collective desires. She explores the cultural abstraction of familiar codes, the effects of translation as well as the socio-political and economic overtone of a musical score. Katarina Zdjelar, born in the former Yugoslavia in 1979, lives and works in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and in Belgrade (Republic of Serbia). She studied at the Piet Zwart Institute of the Willem de Kooning Academy, at the Belgrade Centre for Contemporary Theatre and Performance Art and at the Belgrade University of Arts. Most recently, the Museum of Contemporary Art Artium (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) (2013), the Galerie Stadtpark Krems (Austria) and SpazioA (Pistoia, Italy) (both 2012) have shown her work in solo exhibitions. In 2013, Zdjelar was represented in group exhibitions, among others, in the Total Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea), the Hartware MedienKunstVerein (Dortmund) and the 5^th Moscow Biennial (RU).


(3) Walgenbach & Art Books

Walgenbach & Art Books specializes in artists and art books, fine art and photography. In addition there are small exhibitions of notetable artists. The gallery and bookshop also operates on the internet.


(4) Jasper Niens/Studio Pompi

Jasper Niens, born in 1980, The Netherlands. Studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and AKI Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede. Graduated in Site-Specific Art in 2001. Works as a visual artist on various projects. The works are often made on a big scale as proposals or 3-dimensional sketches for a place. Jasper Niens works and lives in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Manila, the Philippines. Represented by himself and West, The Hague.

Studio Pompi was founded in 2004 and after numerous renovations. Studio Pompi is as of 2014 a studio building with now 8 independent studios and a main hall which is used collectively for projects. The artists and designers that work at Studio Pompi work in various disciplines ranging from painting to technology.

 My Mothers Paintings, Françoise Magrangeas & Nina Boas
“What to do with the art works of a late artist, how to treat the remains of our ancestors, and how to deal with trauma in loss?” Since several years artist Nina Boas searches for ways to tell autobiographical stories through visual performances. In My Mothers Paintings the context of the white cube becomes the stage for her performance that incorporate the paintings of her mother as subject, prop and art work. Women are the protagonists in the paintings of Françoise Magrangeas (1949–2011). They are feminine, sensual, humorous and independent; a confident woman without complexes, placed in a mise-en-scene.
